What is SNOMED?

‘SNOMED CT is a high-quality clinical terminology, (Like a dictionary of clinical words and phrases), used within electronic health records. It provides a standardized way to represent clinical phrases captured by the clinician and enables automatic interpretation of these. SNOMED CT is a clinically validated, semantically rich, controlled vocabulary that facilitates evolutionary growth in expressivity to meet emerging requirements. ie. The Irish NRC can add new clinical phrases on behalf of clinicians in Ireland that are unique to the Irish context to meet new practices within Irish healthcare.’
