Brief Biography:
Dr. Kevin O’Carroll is an experienced professional with over 30 years of experience working in the area of Health Information. He currently serves as the Standards and Technology Manager at HIQA, where he leads the development of interoperability standards for eHealth and provides recommendations to inform national health policy. Kevin’s expertise in healthcare, technology, and policy makes him a key figure in advancing digital health initiatives in Ireland.
Kevin graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) Medical School in 1993 and later obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science from UCD in 1999. His unique combination of medical and technical education has shaped his career, blending clinical knowledge with technology to drive improvements in healthcare systems and policy.
Since joining HIQA in October 2008, Kevin has played a central role in developing interoperability standards for eHealth, aiming to improve the integration of digital technologies in healthcare. He is also responsible for creating policy recommendations that inform national health strategies. Kevin’s deep understanding of both healthcare and technology has been instrumental in advancing the country’s digital health infrastructure and improving healthcare delivery.
