Brief Biography :
Barbara Foley is an experienced professional with over 25 years of experience in the healthcare sector. She is currently serving as the Deputy Director for Health Information Quality and Assurance at the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA). Throughout her career, Barbara has gained extensive expertise in health information quality, governance, and assurance, with previous roles at HIQA, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.

Barbara holds a research doctorate from UCC, qualifications in epidemiology and public health and a  Professional Certificate (NFQ Level 9) in Governance from the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) Ireland, completed in 2021-2022. This recent qualification, along with her extensive experience, provides her with a strong foundation in governance and health information management, enabling her to effectively contribute to the development of health policies and practices.
 

At HIQA, Barbara plays a central role in ensuring the quality and governance of health information, and secondary use of health information to support the delivery of high standards in health and social care. She has led on the development of national standards for information management and also established a review programme to assess compliance with these standards
