General Managers Forum
The GM Forum was held at the Ashling Hotel, Dublin, on Tuesday, 22nd October 2024, gathering around 25 of our Technology and Transformation General Managers. The event was hosted by Thelma Pentony, Training and Development Manager, who facilitated group discussions by posing targeted questions. These discussions surfaced current challenges that managers face in their roles, highlighting shared experiences and insights.
Damien McCallion, CTTO, addressed the group, focusing on the Digital for Care Programme, which is gaining significant attention. He outlined strategic areas for investment, such as Electronic Health Records (EHRs), health identifiers, and building robust infrastructure. A key milestone is the upcoming launch of the patient-facing app, expected to play a crucial role in earning public and political trust. Speaking further about digital transformation, Damien acknowledged the challenge of ensuring that these digital investments lead to real, impactful improvements for patients. Balancing daily demands with long-term strategic goals requires careful prioritisation and adaptive planning.
A Q&A session followed, giving the GMs an opportunity to engage directly with the CTTO and gain clarity on how the Digital for Care Programme will shape future operations.
After a networking lunch, Aongus Hegarty joined the forum to share his experiences as a former senior executive at Dell Corporation. He provided valuable insights into leadership, reflecting on lessons learned throughout his career and how he managed to balance professional responsibilities with personal life. Aongus spoke candidly about the impact of his career on his family, encouraging an open discussion around work-life balance, which resonated with many in the room.
The day concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and a shared commitment to tackle upcoming challenges together, fostering collaboration and innovation within the Technology and Transformation team.
