Progress

Ensuring a new hospital is 'born' digital is an exciting project, the innovation that can be applied is truly an opportunity for the HSE to be able to impact upon, however we need to learn lessons from across the globe and indeed in Ireland. The governance of such a change is critical to its success.

The Office of the CIO and the National Children's Hospital programme team have put in place a governance process that will ensure agile progress against tightly defined delivery dates. Delivering eHealth solutions to the nation whilst ensuring that any national decisions meet the demands of the NCH is a challenge that the team are ready to meet.

Progress on the programme includes;

  • Infrastructure analysis completed by the OoCIO operations team
  • Technology governance process agreed
  • High level case for change for EHR in draft to be published in early August 2015
  • Supplier engagement completed with Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) costs collated
  • System wide blue print agreed

These tasks all feed into the business case and the process for its approval.

The Chief Executive of the hospital group had this to say about the progress made and the direction of travel.

The Knowledge and Information Plan fully embodies the service vision for the new children’s hospital. It is about putting our children and their families at the heart of the everything we do and enabling our staff to have easy access to meaningful information and shared knowledge to provide safe, compassionate high quality care and treatment to patients and to drive effective management and governance of services to improve health and wellbeing. The new children’s hospital will be a Digital Hospital, this plan fully support this vision and I welcome its publication.”
